Kommodori by the sea
Majestic views for sea-lovers
The living area in Susanna Axberg and Matti Myntt’s new log home offers panoramic views of the Baltic Sea. It’s difficult to imagine a more ideal spot for the couple, who both love the sea. Originally, their intention was to keep the property in Nauvo for holidays only. However, their fondness for the surrounding landscape was so great that they decided to create a more permanent residence.
From the beginning, Honka was strong contender for the couple but the final decision was made when they discovered our new Kommodori design. The couple particularly liked the large windows that would bring the calming effect of nature straight into their living room. A few minor adjustments to the design allowed the pair to make the house their own.
We reduced the size of the living and dining area slightly to make the space more manageable And we also wanted three windows on the long wall, instead of two. The extra frames meant that the overall finish was softer and gentler. Honka’s designer worked very flexibly with us and all the changes were added very quickly.
In September, the Honka team arrived to construct the log structure, roof, doors and windows and Susanna and Matti then got to work on the interior with the support of a professional joiner. The LVAC work was carried out by local contractors.
Originally, I had intended to install an air source heat pump to keep the heating costs low but our total annual electricity consumption has remained in the vicinity of 11,000 kWh even though we don’t regularly use the fireplace and there are 40 lights outside, so it hasn’t been at all necessary.
