Latreille
A classic log home on the hillside
This Honka house on the French countryside is a custom log home, inspired by the popular house design Serenata. Built on three levels on a hillside, the house offers scenic views and relaxed living in a picturesque setting.
The starting point for the design was the sloped site that was both a challenge and a gift. 210 square meters of living areas were divided in two stories and a basement, making the best possible use of the hillside location.
Since privacy wasn’t an issue, the owners were able to make the most of their splendid isolation with a fully glazed gable end. Vaulted ceilings make the living room appear even bigger.
The classic shape and natural wooden surfaces give the house its characteristic look and help it blend with the surroundings. With the beautifully landscaped garden, the building coexists in harmony with its natural environment, as though it has grown from the site.
Construction of the house took one year in total, of which all the wooden part were installed in three months. The house is built with 180 mm thick square log and is heated by a fireplace and underfloor heating.
