Honka Lokki
A unique holiday hideaway
Honka Lokki is a unique holiday home with a modern twist, designed for a family of five. The owners wanted wonderful, light-filled interiors, where the outstanding natural beauty of the natural setting would be very much part of the interior space. The large windows offer dramatic views over the nearby lake. The sheltered terraces that wrap around the building always offer shelter from the sun and wind. Nature is a constant presence.
Designed by the architect Kari Lappalainen, the 112 m2 Lokki, alongside a 20 m2 sauna, offers a stylish second home, perfect for holiday living. The architectural pièce de résistance is the inverted pitched roof, inspired by the wings of a seagull. The modern villa makes full use of the freedom offered by Honka’s non-settling Honka Fusion™ logs to create a truly unique and distinctive design.
The fixed furniture, created to match the building’s sculptural look, are the work of interior architect Hanni Koroma. Furniture has been kept to a minimum to allow natural light to travel freely through the space. The materials used in the kitchen, wood and stone, can also be found in the lakeside setting outside. The bathroom and utility room have been designed with maximum convenience in mind, with appliances cleverly integrated for aesthetic appeal.
The interior colour scheme has been chosen to reflect the surrounding landscape and white is only used as an accent. The furniture and lighting is a mix of classic pre-loved and reproduction pieces that come together to create a harmonious whole.
The Lokki villa won the 2011 Log House of the Year award, unanimously picked by a jury comprising well-known Finnish designer Ristomatti Ratia and Professor Jouni Koiso-Kanttila.
