STYLISH holiday lodge for quality living

Teemu Lehtola decided to make his dream of a holiday home come true – with a twist. The stylish, high-quality log property enjoying a wonderful seafront location at the Kalajoki Housing Fair area, was set up as a housing cooperative. The intention is that Villa Merengue will be a happy holiday destination for not just one but many families.

The Lehtola family had always dreamed of a large villa, built to the very highest standards. However, turning that vision into a reality was a significant financial commitment and, as the property would sit empty for a significant part of the year, the investment didn’t seem entirely worthwhile. Then the Lehtolas had the idea to opt for a cooperative-style arrangement.

As the costs are split between a number of shareholders, we have been able to build the property to a very high specification. We decided to divide it into seven equal shares, with each share entitling the owner to seven weeks of occupancy each year. We decided to keep two or three shares to ourselves and sold the rest.

The Villa Merengue designs reflect the surrounding landscape and the shareholder families’ wishes and preferences. A larch terrace brings together the log buildings that happily nestle into their surroundings. The main building comprises a combined kitchen and living area, two bedrooms, a bathroom and a utility room. The seafront sauna features a washroom along with a generous living area that works well as a guest bedroom.

We immediately got off to a great start with Honka as we began the design process, and everything has gone very smoothly since. Honka has really exceeded our expectations.
