PRESS RELEASE 23 September 2026 at 9.45 AM EET
Honka Sentio, to be built for the 2027 Housing Fair at Pickala Rock Resort, is a modern log home that brings Honkarakenne’s new Woodism design philosophy to one of Honka’s most popular house models, Honka Touko. Featuring a steep gable roof and an impressive gable window, the log home brings together wood, a strong connection with nature and solutions for healthy living to create a home that engages all the senses.
Woodism brings a new expression to the much-loved Honka Touko
Honka Sentio has been designed according to Honka’s Woodism design philosophy. Woodism places massive wood at the heart of the design, combining Honka’s design logs with glass, metal and stone surfaces.
In Honka Sentio, Woodism takes shape through the recognisable architectural features of the much-loved Touko model. A steep gable roof, high living space and impressive gable window combine the proportions of a classic log home with contemporary wood architecture. Alongside the main gabled volume, a low, linear carport creates a modern contrast within the overall composition.

“A log home is built to last from one generation to the next, and its architecture should stand the test of time as well. One of the strengths of Honka Touko is its adaptability: its distinctive architecture remains recognisable, while spaces and views can be designed to suit the site and the needs of the residents. With Honka Sentio, we have reinterpreted this classic through our new Woodism philosophy,” says Olavi Kujanen, designer at Honkarakenne and responsible for the development of Honka’s house collections.
The Woodism philosophy continues throughout the interior, from materials and colours to individual details. The completed interior concept will be presented in more detail in spring 2027.
Experiencing nature guides the design of Honka Sentio
Honka Sentio’s seamless connection with nature is created through carefully positioned landscape windows that bring the surrounding natural forest floor into the home’s views. A covered terrace of more than 100 square metres wraps around the house, creating a sheltered outdoor living space for summer. Deep eaves provide shade and help keep the interiors cool on hot summer days, while also protecting the façades from the increasing driving rain and intense sunlight associated with climate change.
Biophilic design – strengthening the connection between people and nature – has always been one of the key principles of Honka’s approach to design. In Honka Sentio, massive wood, natural light and carefully framed views bring nature into the interior and make the changing times of day and seasons visible throughout the home.

“The sensory experience of a home comes from the combination of authentic materials, natural light, landscape and a peaceful acoustic environment. Honka Sentio does not simply look close to nature – nature can also be felt, heard and smelled,” says Saija Ojala, Product Manager at Honkarakenne and responsible for the material choices of Honka Sentio.
A log home designed for healthy living
The Honka Healthy House™ concept integrates wellbeing into the home from the choice of materials and structures onwards. It is based on four key principles: healthy materials, good indoor air quality, moisture safety and a relaxing living environment.
Clean and healthy indoor air is supported by breathable structures, massive logs, clean and low-emission materials, and controlled ventilation. In Honka Sentio, indoor humidity balance is further supported by a ventilation solution developed in cooperation between Honkarakenne and Swegon.
“During the coldest winter months, indoor air in Finland can easily become very dry. Log walls naturally help balance indoor humidity by absorbing and releasing moisture into the indoor air. The solution we have developed with Swegon further supports a healthy humidity balance: it can increase indoor humidity by approximately 15–20 per cent and help keep relative humidity within the 30–55 per cent range considered optimal for health,” says Eino Hekali, Product Director at Honka.

The excellent acoustics created by Honka’s natural log walls also support relaxation and wellbeing. Research has shown that massive wood can have positive effects on psychological wellbeing, with environments made from genuine massive wood helping to reduce stress. The natural antibacterial properties of pine also contribute to a healthy living environment.
