Roof Shapes. A variety of roof shapes can be incorporated into modern log home architecture. Contemporary log home designs tend to be simpler and more clear-cut than those used in traditional log homes. Gable roofs are, once again, considered modern and appealing. Shallow shed roofs and flat roofs are also gaining in popularity.

Combinations of materials. Solid wood is used as the load bearing structure in all Honka homes, but the architecture may also combine many other materials, including glass, steel or even stone.
