Our timber school and day-care buildings are particularly well suited for their purposes, as high indoor air quality and a calming atmosphere are essential in these spaces.

Honka CLT log buildings contribute to people’s physical and mental well-being with respect to nature. Natural wood provides a stress-reducing environment and ensures healthy indoor air with optimal air humidity levels for the end users. For the investor, a CLT log building also means a long-lasting and secure investment with reasonable building and operating costs.
Wood and human health
Did you know that wooden environments affect our stress levels? According to several studies, wooden interiors may provide stress reduction in hospitals, schools, offices and other built environments.

Secure high indoor air quality in public buildings
Wood has been loved by people throughout the ages. It is soothing, aesthetically pleasing and it performs well acoustically. It absorbs sounds and creates a calming, relaxing atmosphere where it’s easy to feel at home.
Naturally breathing structures also create high indoor air quality by effectively balancing the variations in air humidity. Furthermore, a log building feels fresh and cool in the heat of the summer and cosy and warm in the winter.
Children spend a considerable part of their day in day-care or school. This is why the quality of indoor air in these buildings is very important. An extensive European study has shown that log buildings have cleaner indoor air and more balanced indoor air humidity. When the indoor air humidity is between 30 and 55%, adverse factors in indoor air, such as mould spores and bacteria, are minimised. This helps to prevent allergies and respiratory infections.
In our log day care units, for example, the sound insulation and air quality are very noticeable.

The ideal environment for learning
Recent studies also indicate that wood has the same kind of stress-reducing effect as nature. A classroom study conducted in Austria demonstrated that a solid wood classroom could positively affect the mental and physical health of children. In this study, students in the solid wood classroom were shown to be healthier, calmer and less stressed than children who studied in traditional classrooms.
All of our users, from adults to children, have been satisfied with the current log building. This is a healthy, high-quality building that has attracted admirers even from abroad.
