Honkarakenne Strengthens Its Nearly 20-Year Partnership in Mongolia
Honkarakenne Plc and its long-standing Mongolian partner, Honka Log Home LLC, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen their cooperation. The agreement builds on a partnership established in 2007 and lays the foundation for new business opportunities in Mongolia. The cooperation aims to promote Finnish log construction, particularly in residential, hospitality and public building projects.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 23 October at the Finland–Mongolia Business Forum in Helsinki, held in connection with the visit of Mongolian President Ukhnaa Khurelsukh to Finland. The event was attended by President Khurelsukh and the President of the Republic of Finland, Alexander Stubb. The MoU was signed by Magnus Hindström, CEO of Honkarakenne Plc, and Enkbayar Badia, Managing Director of Honka Log Home LLC.

Nearly 100 Honka Buildings Delivered to Mongolia
Honkarakenne has been operating in Mongolia since 2007 in cooperation with its local partner, Honka Log Home LLC. Over the course of the partnership, nearly 100 Honka log buildings manufactured in Karstula, Finland, have been delivered to Mongolia, ranging from private homes and villas to the Khuvsgul Black Rock Hotel, covering more than 2,000 square metres.
In Mongolia’s demanding climate, energy efficiency, durability and healthy indoor air are particularly important. Honkarakenne’s solid wood buildings, developed and manufactured in Finland, combine Finnish construction expertise, high-quality materials and modern architecture.

“Mongolian winters put any building to the test, and people have been living in Honka buildings there for almost twenty years. This is also at the heart of our export model: our buildings are manufactured at our own factory in Karstula, while our local partner knows the market and its customers. We are now exploring together how this same expertise could also serve school and daycare construction in Mongolia,” says Magnus Hindström, CEO of Honkarakenne Plc.
According to Honka Log Home LLC, awareness and appreciation of Finnish log construction have grown in Mongolia over the years.
“In Mongolia, people value high-quality construction and solutions that can withstand our demanding climate. Honka’s Finnish expertise and extensive experience in log construction have been key strengths of our partnership from the very beginning. We see promising opportunities particularly in hospitality and public construction, and we want to make Finnish building solutions accessible to more people in Mongolia,” says Enkbayar Badia, Managing Director of Honka Log Home LLC.

Bringing Finnish Expertise to International Markets
Founded in 1958, Honkarakenne is an international pioneer in log construction, having delivered more than 90,000 buildings to over 50 countries. All Honka buildings are manufactured in Finland at the company’s own factory in Karstula.
The long-standing partnership in Mongolia is an example of Honkarakenne’s international business model, which combines Finnish design and manufacturing expertise with the local market knowledge of its partners. The cooperation supports Honkarakenne’s ambition to strengthen its position in international markets and develop new business opportunities together with its partner network.
