A functional building pleases both users and owners

Whether a day care centre or school building is owned by a private or public owner, you have every reason to expect it to be of high quality in more than one respect. The ideal school building is designed so that if the needs of the users change the facilities can be organised in a new way to accommodate the new needs. A house with a log frame is quick, easy and risk-free to build, carefree to use and inexpensive in terms of operating costs.
A functional building pleases both users and owners
In service construction, it is crucial to ensure that the building can serve very different kinds of users during its lifetime. A modern wooden building fits into its surroundings while standing out from the other buildings in the area as it draws users in with its pleasant exterior. With modern technology, a log building can be altered and expanded almost without limits, which only adds to the building’s already long service life.
Both the builders and users of day care centres recognise the value of ecological and healthy log construction:
Ecological log construction is the perfect fit for our values. An environment that is healthy and friendly to the senses improves the well-being of both the children and their educators during the day.

The tightness, maintenance-free nature and easy and quick installation of the non-settling log frame are significant benefits in public construction. The aesthetically pleasing buildings are also a great fit for urban surroundings.

Modern day care and school concepts
With our ready-made day care and school concepts we can effectively realise schools and day care centres tailored to the users’ needs. The users are involved when the ready-made solutions of the concepts are flexibly applied to the construction project at hand. This way all the special needs and life cycle thinking are already incorporated into the building in the planning phase.
The Honka Day Care Concept is a marriage of log and glass
This modular day care concept was designed by Partanen and Lamusuo Oy. It consists of distinct log circles and the glass sections between them. This allows the building to have both sheltered sections as well as parts that open to the surrounding scenery.
The basic day care concept contains modules for two day care groups as well as joint multi-purpose facilities that can house a kitchen and spaces for communal use, for example. The number of group modules can be increased and the purpose of the modules can be tailored to the users’ needs.
The Honka School Concept supports learning
Our healthy log school concept was designed by HIMLA Architects. It consists of a central lobby and multi-functional facilities that can be adapted to different needs and that can open into the actual classrooms.
At the centre of the building you find a safe and partially covered courtyard. The village-like atmosphere of the school is based on the differently coloured sections that form a learning environment well-suited for children and youths.
Municipal officials are placing an emphasis on high-quality log construction
Log buildings are becoming increasingly popular thanks to their undeniable benefits. Day care centres, schools and other public buildings can be the trailblazers of healthy construction. In spring 2017 we had the pleasure of announcing that Honkarakenne and its partners will build 34 log-structured day care centres across Finland. I believe that this is just the beginning: log is a durable and safe solution and schools and day care centres built out of them will promote the health and well-being of generations to come in all corners of the world.
