Honkarakenne launches a new product: timber frame structured solid wood buildings
HONKARAKENNE OYJ Stock Exchange Release 7 May 2018 at 10 a.m.
Honkarakenne will launch a new product alongside log buildings: timber frame structured solid wood buildings. In the future, Honkarakenne offers in addition to log houses timber frame-constructed buildings, ranging from recreational buildings to detached houses and commercial buildings.
Honkarakenne has initiated timber frame product development, product design and project sales and is ready to launch its own timber frame collection in autumn 2018.
The timber frame structure is also known in Finland as post-and-beam structure (pilari-palkkirakenne). In it, the frame of a solid wooden building consists of wooden pillars and beams on which the floors and the outer walls of the building are installed. Timber frame construction is an old, traditional building method that has been used for centuries. Timber frame construction is commonly used, especially in North America and Central Europe.
The President and CEO of Honkarakenne, Marko Saarelainen comments the new product as follows: “I am very excited to add this new, great product to our product range. We are launching our own timber frame model collection at the Honka Summit in September and I think a timber frame product is a great way to celebrate Honka’s 60th anniversary. Timber frame is well suited for our product range.”
Honkarakenne’s Chief Architect Anne Mäkinen comments the timber frame structure as follows: “The timber frame structure allows us to use architecturally brilliant solutions. The pillars and beams in the timber frame houses can be left out to see to give a modern house an interesting attraction.”
Under its Honka® brand, Honkarakenne manufactures high-quality, healthy and ecological detached houses, holiday homes and public buildings using Finnish solid wood. The company has delivered 85,000 buildings to more than 50 countries. House packages are made at the company’s own factory in Karstula, Finland. In 2017, the Honkarakenne Group had net sales of MEUR 43.4, of which exports accounted for 41%. www.honka.com
