The award-winning industrial designer Harri Koskinen has designed a compact and modern cabin collection for relaxed and natural living on behalf of the Finnish log house builder Honkarakenne, who are celebrating their 60th anniversary this year. The collection, intended for holiday and traveller living, made its first appearance at the annual Housing Fair Finland in Pori on 6.7. – 5.8.2018.
The compact and modern cabins are perfect for relaxed living in a natural setting. The large landscape windows offer an unobstructed view of the surroundings. The bedroom has an entrance onto the terrace, which has protective wings for privacy. This allows several cabins to be placed next to each other.
– These are cabins where you can focus on what really matters and become one with nature. The design premise was to eliminate everything unnecessary or superfluous: the surrounding landscape plays the leading role, says Harri Koskinen.
The compact houses can be used for traveller accommodations, as guest houses, studios or even offices together with existing buildings. All models are available with pent and pitched roofs, making them easy to combine with other buildings. Due to their compact size, the cabins can be transported on the back of a truck.
– Sustainable nature travelling is a growing trend, and there is a global demand for such compact housing models. We wanted to introduce a compact and modern cabin collection which could be used for both accommodations as well as complementary construction. At the same time, we are taking Finnish design from Karstula onto the global scene, says Anne Mäkinen, the Head Architect for Honkarakenne.
The interior design of the Kontti cabins on display at the Housing Fair has been realised in partnership with Meilläkotona.fi, Secto Design and Genelec. The cabin interiors have been designed by interior designer Maru Hautala, whose blog Marulla is full of joy, crafting and happy everyday life.
– The Kontti cabins have been decorated for life. The decoration has been inspired by the short but bright Finnish summer as well as happy holiday-goers. The interiors have been realised with high-quality Finnish products and natural materials, states interior designer Maru Hautala.
