Heidi Sajo and her family built a Honka Lux log house of their dream at the seaside.
Dream log house at the seaside
A pair of swans paddle along in the sea under the hill, and centuries-old oaks hum in front of the house, as Heidi Sajo, whose job is to make her customers’ dreams come true, talks about her own dream that has come true and the journey to the Turku archipelago.
– I’ve always wanted to live by the seaside and my husband has wanted to build his own home. When we got an opportunity for this, we went for it without hesitation. I’m grateful every day that we are living here. I marvel at the beauty of it all when I come home and I’ll never be bored with this place, landscape and home, she says.

Ecological building and reliable house factory vital
It was obvious they wanted to build a log house because of the good indoor air quality, the feeling of a wooden house, and also aspects of ecology and sustainability. They chose Honka, because Heidi was familiar with the modifiability of the model houses, and also knew Honka to be a reliable operator.
– My father has ordered several tailored detached houses from Honka. As I’ve been closely involved as an interior designer in projects of my father’s company Rimito Living, I know that Honka could deliver what we wanted.
Fabulous tailored design house
Their home is a Honka Lux model log house, tailored for them by Marko Lehtonen, a Honka designer. It fulfils their dream, with the landscape, light and the family’s circadian rhythms synchronised, making living easy and enjoyable.
– Apart from great functionality, it is important for us that there is nothing blocking the landscape we want to see. We want to enjoy the view from morning to evening, also from indoors. We chose the Lux model partly because of the huge windows. Our house has been constructed without terrace pillars and the glass railing is designed to blend into the environment. The overhang has been extended. It not only looks good but also protects the terrace and prevents the sun from reaching too much of the interior.
Builder of idylls in the archipelago – easy log house construction process
Heidi enjoyed the family’s construction process from the first day to the last.
– It was wonderful to follow in detail how the construction progressed, and to make surface material and interior design solutions during the various stages.
As their own project proceeded, Heidi realised that she wants to help others too to fulfil their dreams especially in the Turku archipelago.
– I love to create interiors and to manage projects. I am familiar with the archipelago and its opportunities and requirements. With the help of my contacts and by working with my partners, I can make big and challenging archipelago dreams come true, from start to finish. It’s really rewarding to help customers fulfil their dreams.

Designer Heidi Sajo’s top 5 tips for log house interiors
1. Plan the house on the basis of the plot and the environment. Find out exactly where the sun rises and sets, how light enters the interior and what you value most in the final result.
2. Focus on the major elements, surface materials and fixtures. For example, furniture and fixtures are easier to find second-hand and replacing them later is much easier than the surface materials.
3. Consider carefully the log surface treatment and tone. A painted finish cannot be made translucent later. You can test paints in areas that will later be hidden behind fixtures, for example.
4. Use enough time for the design and get a feeling of what you prefer best. Play with colours and draw inspiration from the environment. I looked for the best tone for the façade in the leaves of an oak tree. The perfect tone was finally found in a small sample piece of felt roofing.
5. Be consistent, remember the big picture and enjoy the process.

Honka Lux – Explore the model
Lux is named after light — its modern Scandinavian architecture is based around light. Floor-to-ceiling windows let in natural light from morning to night. You can see outside as soon as you awake in the master bedroom. The large covered veranda provides shelter from rain and sunshine. Enjoying seasonal changes and the surrounding landscape is child’s play in this house.
