The Governor of the Akmola region of Kazakhstan, Mr. Marat Akhmetzhanov, and his delegation visited Rovaniemi on February 22-23, 2025. The main purpose of the visit was to get acquainted with the travel and tourism business in the Lapland region.
The Governor’s over 10-member delegation visited many companies in the Rovaniemi region that maintain and provide services to both Finnish and international tourists. The purpose of the visit was to see and experience how Rovaniemi has succeeded in developing winter season travel and tourism and to transfer the information received for the development of tourism in the Akmola region.
During the intensive visit program, the Governor’s delegation met, among others, Rovaniemi Mayor Mrs. Ulla-Kirsikka Vainio and the Governor of Lapland Mr. Hannu Takkula, with whom the Governor of Akmola region signed a Memorandum of Understanding on developing cooperation between the regions.
Honkarakenne Ltd. and the Akmola region also signed a Memorandum of Understanding during the visit, the purpose of which is to create comprehensive and effective cooperation for the development of mutual projects.
