At the housing fair you can experience the atmosphere of the houses for yourself
20.07.2017 by Sanna Huovinen
This year Finland’s largest annual housing event, Housing Fair Finland, is held in Mikkeli by the beautiful Lake Saimaa. The Fair presents the latest trends in housing and visitors have the opportunity to visit the houses built on the fairgrounds in their full, decorated glory. The Fair also offers a great chance to experience the moods and atmospheres of different types of homes and spaces so that you may find ideas for your own dream home. After the Fair, new inhabitants will begin their lives in the new houses.
Honkarakenne has built two very different yet equally terrific log houses for the Housing Fair. One presents a simplified, minimalist case while the other is bursting with variety with its observation tower and numerous corners.
LARGE WINDOWS BRING NATURE CLOSER
Housing Fair Finland is always held in varied terrain and beautiful surroundings. This is the case in Mikkeli as well. The glimmering blue water of Lake Saimaa and the dark trees on its shores create a pleasant living environment. Nature is also well represented in Honka’s log houses. Their large windows offer great vistas into the outdoors and the changing seasons. Both of the Honka houses on the fairgrounds are built using natural logs. The natural ethos has also been incorporated into their decor.
Different wishes, totally different log houses
Our two buildings, the Honka Ink and the Honka Ankkuri, have wildly different personalities. The designs of both houses strongly embody the wishes and personal touches of their future inhabitants. The inhabitants worked together with professional designers to create designs that matched their dreams. These two houses, erected near each other, make a clear statement about the wide-ranging possibilities offered by Honka log houses.
The Honka Ink is a young couple’s vision of a simple, ecological and healthy log home. The inhabitants of the Honka Ankkuri, on the other hand, wanted not only roomy common areas but also plenty of comfortable nooks and quiet spaces. Creating functional rooms for both business and pleasure was crucial for the entrepreneurial family.
The log is also a part of the decor
Nature is today’s hottest trend. The Honka Ink is a youthful vision of an ecological and healthy log home nested in nature. The woodland lot, breathable log walls and the beautiful vista over Lake Saimaa opening from the upstairs bedroom are all parts of realising the dream of natural living.
Today, the log can also be a visible part of the decor, there to be seen and felt. The brown log walls downstairs create a terrific counterpoint to the dark kitchen walls and cabinets and the light wall in the living room. The atmosphere is natural and relaxed. Micro concrete floors and fireplace add to the ruggedness of the interior. All the elements come together to form a modern home for a young couple.
Living tips for comfortable solitude and togetherness
The Honka Ankkuri is a feast of diversity. In addition to an observation tower, the number of corners in the house totals to a whopping 17. The Ankkuri is a destination you simply must experience for yourself: to see the different rooms and feel all the nooks. Once you have seen it, you will understand how multiple generations can live harmoniously under its roof. Possible guests have also been taken into account. It was important for the future occupants, an entrepreneurial family, that the house has serene spaces for both work and active hobbies. The house is a sum of many wishes and dreams and it terrifically manifests the family’s idea of a home that will serve as the common family headquarters for decades to come. The life of the inhabitants changes over the years, and the house accommodates for this in a very real way.
Come enjoy the Fair with an open mind and a tape measure in your pocket. You will find a practical vision of your dream home.
