One of the year’s most impressive public log buildings delivered by Honkarakenne opened its doors to visitors in spring 2019. The holiday resort Kuopion Saana combines Finnish sauna experiences, excellent restaurant services as well as numerous events and activities into one stunning location by the Lake Kallavesi in Kuopio, Finland.
The building phase started in the summer of 2018 and the holiday resort was completed for the summer season 2019. The building material is non-settling Honka Fusion log which enables modern architecture that is easily combined with other materials. The architectural planning was done by QVIM Arkkitehdit from Kuopio, Finland.
The spa gives a year-round travelling experience
The 1,000 m² sauna complex built with logs and the larger than 1,500 m² terrace with outdoor pool and smoke sauna offer a globally attractive, year-round travelling experience in Bellanranta, Kuopio. Scenery windows open out remarkable views to Kallavesi. The exteriors walls are mainly solid logs which is pleasant to watch and touch.
The sauna complex and the spa unit of Saana feature a 30-seat standard sauna, indoor jacuzzi, two heated outdoor pools, waterfall showers and an experience shower as well as heated lounge chairs. There is also a smoke sauna for 12 people at the lake shore.

Saana’s restaurant seats about 200 people, and the summer terrace offers 1,000 seats more. The restaurant leans heavily on locally grown food to offer a wide spectrum of spectacular tastes.
“The shape of the building got its inspiration from boating. The roof, which reminds of a sail, gives the building a distinct look and protects the customers on the terrace from wind and rain”, describes architect Jouni Ilmarinen, QVIM Arkkitehdit.

Saana’s meeting and seminar premises enable versatile corporate and meeting services. Saana can also be reserved as a celebration venue. Right next door to Saana you can find several adventure services, a high-quality gym and group-fitness room, an indoor karting track as well as a multi-training centre, sports equipment rental shop, mini-golf course and a brewery that offers tours. In addition, Lake Kallavesi provides a terrific setting for different boat cruises and other water sports.
Saana is located in the centre of Kuopio, by the clear waters of Kallavesi. Saana is easily accessible both from the city and by the water routes. In summer, Saana provides boaters with a guest dock as well as various events and services.
