Custom-designed for its owner and its privileged setting on the shores of a large Finnish lake, this stately CLT log villa is a celebration of premium Finnish timber and an outstanding example of contemporary wooden architecture. Every detail has been carefully considered and executed to the highest standard.
A modern holiday home on an elevated hillside
When the time came to build a new holiday home on the shores of a major lake in southern Finland, the owner found a suitable modern log villa in Honka’s collection and contacted the sales team. Together with the Honka Design Service, the chosen model – the elegant, flowing Honka Lastu – was adapted in size, layout and structural solutions to meet the client’s needs, wishes and the specific demands of the plot.
The original design was subtly reduced in floor area, the interior layout was refined, the ceiling height increased to an impressive 4.5 metres, and the roof structure was upgraded to a Frame roof with striking beams that extend seamlessly over the terrace canopy.
“Over the decades, I’ve seen countless buildings in countless locations, and this one fits its setting exceptionally well. The choice of model and the customisations are absolutely spot on. It feels as though the house was designed for this landscape from the very beginning,” says Honka sales representative Jouni Koivula.

Stunning landscape windows overlooking the lake
With the roof raised higher than usual and the structural rhythm of the window wall adjusted, the Honka LandscapePlus glazed façade plays a major role in the architecture. Positioned high above the shoreline, the panoramic lake views are nothing short of breathtaking – wide, open and deeply impressive.
Behind the windows, the large terrace is fitted with airy glass balustrades designed to remain as unobtrusive as possible, ensuring the world-class natural scenery remains uninterrupted.

Premium timber from floor to ceiling
The client’s appreciation for uncompromising quality and Finnish wood is evident throughout the home. Externally, the villa is clad in beautifully deep-brown treated, non-settling Honka CLT logs made from Finnish timber. Inside, log panelling has been used on all walls except in wet areas. Doors, floors and ceilings are all crafted from wood.
The light-toned interior finishes allow the natural character of the timber to shine through, enhancing the sense of space and airiness. The overall atmosphere is calm, cohesive and carefully balanced.
Wood and other natural materials also feature prominently in the elegant interior furnishings. The kitchen and bathroom cabinetry were custom-made by Esan Levykaluste, the fireplace is by Tulikivi and the flooring by Timberwise. Craftsmanship is impeccable throughout. The interior design was created by interior architect Joanna Laajisto.
A turnkey log home with complementary outbuildings
The project was delivered on a turnkey basis, covering everything from groundworks and project management to final landscaping. Honka supplied the package up to the installation of the roof, with all remaining work carried out by trusted partners through the sales representative’s network.
Once the groundwork was completed, assembly of the CLT log structure began in early winter.
“The permit process took time and delayed the start, but fortunately log construction works well even in sub-zero conditions. In fact, when relative humidity is low, winter weather is ideal for log building. In the end, construction took eight to nine months, which is very typical for a project of this scale in Finnish conditions,” Koivula explains.

In addition to the main house, a guest house based on the Honka Kide model was delivered and built on the property, along with a carport. The existing log-built lakeside sauna and the long outdoor stairway were also refurbished. Now, all elements sit naturally together, forming a coherent and harmonious courtyard ensemble.
