A dream holiday home rarely emerges fully formed from the outset. More often, it evolves from everyday needs, long‑held wishes, and a location that feels instantly right. That was exactly the case with this striking Honka Tuuli CLT log villa – a cohesive ensemble that also includes a bespoke Honka Pihka lakeside sauna and a carport designed to complement the villa’s architecture. This beautiful second home is part of Honka’s From Tree to House documentary series, which followed the construction of the villa from start to finish on its idyllic lakeside plot.
An open layout with the landscape in the leading role
One factor guided the design of the villa above all others: a strong connection to nature. The spacious living area of the Honka Tuuli model opens directly towards the lake, with floor‑to‑ceiling windows drawing the surrounding landscape into the heart of the home. The open‑plan layout seamlessly combines the kitchen, dining area and living room into one generous, light‑filled space.
Two bedrooms provide calm, flexible rooms suited both for rest and remote working – functionality was a key consideration from the very beginning. Light, views and practicality come together to create an interior where everyday life simply feels lighter.
“What we liked most about the Tuuli model was the large floor‑to‑ceiling windows. They let the beautiful scenery flow inside and flood the entire house with natural light,” says Auri, the homeowner.

Clear design and carefully considered contrasts
The interior design highlights the natural beauty of solid Honka CLT log. Light‑toned log surfaces are contrasted with darker furniture and details, bringing structure and a contemporary edge to the space. The result is a harmonious balance: calm and serene, yet clearly defined and thoughtfully styled.
From the outset, the villa was intended to be more than a traditional holiday cabin. Dedicated remote‑working areas, a well‑designed floor plan and high‑quality materials make it a place where extended stays – or even permanent living – feel effortless. This philosophy is reflected throughout: in the spatial planning, technical solutions and material choices.
“When choosing the house model, it was also essential for us that there was room for functional remote‑working spaces,” Auri explains.

Three buildings, one cohesive whole
The bespoke Honka Pihka lakeside sauna, designed as part of the overall concept, adds its own rhythm and ritual to life by the lake. From the sauna, views open directly across the water, while the connection between the main villa and the sauna has been designed for smooth, comfortable use in all seasons. Completing the ensemble is a carport tailored to the villa’s architectural language, giving the courtyard a coherent, refined finish.
