Our collection of detached homes now includes three new Honka log homes for high-quality everyday life. Our team of architects and designers have combined functional and interesting floor plans with styles that inspire our international clientele also. Head Architect Anne Mäkinen introduces the new log homes for the spring: Honka Haiku, Honka Suvi and Honka Vuolu.
Scandinavian architecture with international influences
“Our new collection provides three completely different perspectives on living. Our comprehensive designs are expertly tailored to promote pleasant, high-quality living. These new house models have a distinct look – we wanted to give Scandinavian architecture an international twist.
The Japanese-Scandinavian Honka Haiku is an intimate yet bright atrium house. The charming Honka Suvi exudes the New England style with its beautiful, classic design. The impressively sculptural Honka Vuolu is a perfect example of streamlined and modern architecture. These new models have stunning landscape windows, while at the same time providing plenty of sheltered space. The exterior and interior complete each other superbly.”

Honka Haiku is a modern, Scandinavian atrium house with a Japanese touch. As is typical of atrium houses, the spa, conservatory and living room have glazed sliding doors facing the sheltered courtyard surrounded by the building. The large windows and the patio surrounding the building make the exterior part of the interior, which is why Haiku is at its best on a sheltered plot close to nature. The model features three bedrooms and a combined kitchen, dining and lounge area for cosy family time. Honka Haiku can be explored at the Naantali Housing Fair in the summer of 2022.
“Honka Haiku was designed in close collaboration between award-winning architect Marko Simsiö, interior designer Maru Hautala, who specialises in log homes, and landscape architect Asako Hashimoto. In Honka Haiku, most of the spaces are facing the atrium. Nature is also part of the interior, which is an important part of the Japanese aesthetic. Japan is our longest-standing export country. For me, the most important part of Haiku is the space you enter before the cosy spa section, as it can be easily customised and made into a studio, conservatory or spot for enjoying morning coffee, for example. Thanks to the large sliding glass doors at both ends, the room is easy to cool in the summer, with a gentle breeze flowing through the entire space. Honka Haiku is equally well suited as a detached house and a holiday home for year-round use.”

Honka Suvi is inspired by the New England style and Danish farmhouses. The floor plan of this log home provides a fair amount of space for excellent everyday functionality. The spacious utility room is directly accessible from the island kitchen, which also has access to a sizeable patio. The large master bedroom is at the other end of the building, offering peace and quiet for the adults in the family. The classic architecture of Honka Suvi stands the test of time.
“I am confident that Honka Suvi will be in high demand, as it features the same type of classic design as the popular Honka Lounatuuli model. The H-shaped floor plan of Honka Suvi provides the bright spaces with privacy and the yard areas with protection. Thanks to the expert design, even the hallway gets plenty of light, and there is a fair amount of space. The kitchen resembles a dining kitchen. Although the living room is part of the kitchen, it forms a separate entity with a view of the surrounding landscape. As is suitable for a farmhouse, the utility room in Honka Suvi is very spacious and highly functional – there is even space for clothes lines and a mudroom. The spacious porches add the finishing touch.

Honka Vuolu is an elegant and modern urban home with a combined dining area and kitchen at its heart. The lobby-like upstairs lounge area of this four-bedroom home overlooks a high-ceiling living room with large windows for plenty of natural light. Both sides of the building feature a covered patio, and a full-width balcony completes the impressive whole.
“The elegant Honka Vuolu is perfect for small, narrow urban plots. This house model feels really spacious and has a highly functional floor plan. The architectural window wall at the end of the lounge area provides plenty of natural light, while at the same time the side walls on the patio give privacy. The patio walls also have openings through which the surrounding area can be viewed while in the outdoor lounge area. The kitchen is connected to the living room, and has a lowered ceiling that makes the space cosy. The upstairs spaces include a bright and sizeable lounge area and a 12 m2 balcony.”
